For employers

The National College of Legal Training (NCLT) offers postgraduate qualifications to law students and others interested in pursuing a career as a solicitor.

NCLT is a collaboration between Central Law Training (CLT), the leading training provider for qualified lawyers in the UK, and The University of the West of England (UWE). NCLT is formally known as an Associate College of UWE.

We currently offer a part-time, weekend study Legal Practice Course (LPC), a full-time LPC, a part-time Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and an LLM  Top Up qualification.

NCLT was established as an alternative to the existing providers and we aim to be different. At the heart of our approach is the desire to provide more for less.

By keeping our costs low we can ensure that UWE's excellent courses are available at a highly affordable level of fees, almost half that of other providers in the UK.

With part-time options for the LPC and the GDL, students are able to continue to earn whilst they learn. Furthermore, the use of weekend workshops, supported by e-learning makes NCLT's courses the truly flexible and practical option.

Our aim is to be accessible to all, both geographically and financially and we have six regional study centres across the UK, and provide flexible payment options.

At NCLT students are not just another number - we pride ourselves on offering an excellent experience, listening to students' needs and providing personal support throughout their study.

Our marketing encourages readers to 'Just Think …' Not only does this reflect our hope that students and law firms will consider us for their postgraduate training, but we also believe that it reflects students' aspirations - our aim is to help them realise their potential, being the best they can be.

Your training provision

If you are looking for a provider for your LPC/GDL training, we would like to hear from you.  To arrange a meeting or to discuss further, in the first instance, call 0121 362 7728 or email the Commercial Director, Paul Whitehouse at nclt@nclt.co.uk.

Linking students and law firms

NCLT hold a number of events throughout the year where law firms have the opportunity to meet students and promote their firm and speak at one of our presentations.  Our careers evenings held in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Southampton are a great opportunity for students to receive advice on getting a training contract.

If your firm would like the opportunity to attend one of our careers evenings, please contact the Support Centre Manager, Debbie Price, at dprice@nclt.co.uk or call 0121 362 7529. The careers evenings are free to attend and firms can choose to exhibit and or present at the events. To find out what events are taking place, please see Careers Evenings.

What law firms say about our Careers Evenings:

I think this event was a great success.  It was a good opportunity to network and promote the firm to potential future employees

Laura Sidaway, Weightmans LLP

The event provided students with a real insight into the process involved in becoming a solicitor and being a trainee, including useful tips. The presence of various firms enabled the students to ask questions in an informal environment
