Employment Law
European, political, industrial and commercial influences all
combine to make Employment Law one of the most interesting and
dynamic areas of law. This, together with the overlap between
Employment Law and many other areas of business, inevitably means
that the demand for solicitors to possess a sound practical
knowledge of Employment Law is expanding. This is a challenging but
fascinating area of Legal Practice.
The elective will cover:
- The law and practice relating to the contract of employment,
its termination and the interplay between the contractual and
statutory nature of the employment relationship employment
- Drafting, interpreting and applying the express terms of a
contract of employment
- The statutory consequences of dismissal (in particular, unfair
dismissal and redundancy payments)
- Protection of a corporate client's proprietary business
interests (in particular, in relation to trade secrets,
confidentiality and restraint of trade of ex-employees)
- The common law consequences of dismissal (in particular,
wrongful dismissal)
- The statutory consequences of dismissal (in particular, unfair
dismissal and redundancy payments)
- Remedies and levels of compensation/damages
- Employment tribunal procedures and settlement
The content of the full-time and part-time course is identical,
